This includes data on labor force, employment, unemployment, jobs by industry, occupations, wages, employment forecasts, and more. Our information is relied upon by business leaders, workforce developers and planners, jobseekers, educators and students.
Purpose The purpose of this report is to provide the Where Hospitality Works! Regional Skills Alliance (RSA) with labor market information on the Hospitality and Tourism industry for the Southeast Michigan Region. The information we provide will assist the RSA in assessing needs, developing strategies and making decisions in every aspect of their industry and enable the RSA to:
- Promote jobs and careers in hospitality and tourism
- Continue to offer existing workers training to advance career opportunities
- Promote the Southeast Region’s attractions and events
- Encourage MWAs to educate employers about their services
This report is also intended to assist both employers and jobseekers by providing workforce information on the Southeast Michigan hospitality industry. Employers and jobseekers will be able to use this document to:

How is the “Hospitality & Tourism” Industry Defined? The hospitality and tourism industry in Southeast Michigan provides almost 443,500 jobs in more than 25,600 business establishments, which generate a payroll of $9.5 billion. These businesses can be divided into five sectors, including; retail trade; transportation and travel services; recreation, attractions, and amusements; lodging; and restaurants.
